Live in carer required in Birmingham

We are looking for a live-in carer to provide care for our 80-year-old father who has Alzheimer's disease.

Our father has a regular live-in carer who works 4 weeks in 5 and we require an additional live-in carer to cover the 1 week in 5 when the regular live-in carer is not working.

The location is in a nice bungalow in a suburb of Birmingham. The live-in carer will have their own bedroom with an ensuite. The live-in carer should be self-employed and the rate of pay is £800 per week.

The candidate must have:

- DBS

- References

- Live-in care experience

- Experience in caring for the elderly and in particular caring for people who suffer from Alzheimer's disease/dementia

- Manual handling qualifications/experience

- Experience in all matters relating to personal care including washing, changing of incontinence pads, dressing etc

- The ability to cook basic meals

- The ability to undertake usual household tasks such as cleaning and ironing

- Patience

- A friendly and outgoing personality

The client (our father) has limited mobility but is not bed-bound. He is able to mobilise with a Zimmer frame but needs close supervision and encouragement with its use when mobilising.

The client is not aggressive or difficult to work with.

The live-in carer is supported by 2 additional care calls per day - one call in the morning to assist the live-in carer with getting the client out of bed, showering and dressing etc; and one call in the evening to assist the live-in carer with getting the client ready, and into, bed.

The usual hours of working are from approximately 7.30am in the morning until approximately 9pm at night with a 2-hour break during the day.
