Location :

Newcastle, Co. Down, N. Ireland. Residence is approximately 1 mile outside town. Newcastle is a seaside resort town adjacent to mountains in an area of outstanding natural beauty. It has plenty of amenities.

Dates and Times :

4th July to 10th July inclusive

18th to 24th July inclusive

Working Hours 8.00 am to 8.00 pm ( waking night carers come at night time). Two 20 minute breaks within this time. Can be live in or live out. Rate is £204 per day/shift.

The above is to cover holiday leave for employed care and support carer.

In addition to the below skills/training you must have insurance and an enhanced DBS check or an AccessNI enhanced check. You will need references.

PPE is required and will be provided.

A driving license or car is not essential.

The care and support is for my father who is 76 years old. He is a well travelled retired professional. He lived a very active life and spent a lot of time outdoors when not working. He is not a fan of fiction, but likes a variety of music, concerts, documentaries (nature, science, cultural, travel and gardening) and world affairs.

He has 24 hr time intensive care and support needs from an acquired brain injury 10 years ago from which he has multiple disabilities and deficits including but not limited to executive dysfunction and anxiety. In addition to his brain injury he also has multiple other medical conditions/disabilities including rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension, osteoarthritis and other health problems. He currently has an in-situ catheter. He is immunocompromised. He is a wheelchair user and has very limited mobility.

He currently has very limited speech which additionally fluctuates but does understand what is being said to him.

He lives with my mother who is his primary carer. My mother is a registered nurse and and manages his care and support. You would be working alongside her for all by two needs. You will at times be carrying out care and support on your own, although there will be support accessible nearby if needed. You need to able to work with her and accept instruction. We currently have 3 full time employed care and support carers as well as some self-employed carers. If desired we can arrange for you to speak with one of our employed care and support carers that does day duty for more information.

You will need to have the below attributes/skills/training (this is in no particular order and isn’t intended to be an exhaustive list) :

  • Fluent clear spoken English.
  • Reliable.
  • Patient.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Actively engage, interact and support with all ADL’s.
  • Motivate and encourage.
  • Moving and handling. - (a standing hoist is mainly used. There is also a standby full hoist). WendyLett sheets are used for bed mobility.
  • Full assistance with eating and drinking. (Level 1 fluid, Level 4 food).
  • Accompany and assist with any appointments or outings.
  • Catheter care.
  • Personal care.
  • First Aid.
  • Infection control.
  • Supervision - can be impulsive and lack insight due to brain injury.
  • Assist, motivate and instruct with Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language issued exercises when he is able.
  • Maintain a clean environment.
  • Confidentiality.
  • Maintain clear accurate records (e.g fluids).
  • Reassurance - (has anxiety, can also sometimes get agitated- normally pain or infection related).
